The Mexican Gray Wolf is considered the rarest subspecies. The Mexican Gray Wolf is one of the smallest subspecies. As a rule, Mexican Wolves stand about 32 inches at the shoulder. Its original range in Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts in central Mexico and western Texas has significantly been reduced to a fracture. Nowadays, the population of the Mexican Gray Wolf is threateningly small. The subspecies is on the Endangered Species List.
